Privacy policy
Effective November 3, 2026. Drift Bite is run by Appalachian Digital ("we").
Drift Bite helps you find food trucks and local events. This policy explains what we collect and why. We don't sell your data, and we don't show ads.
What we collect
- Account details. Your name, email address, and password (stored only as a one-way hash), and when you agreed to our terms. If you turn on two-factor sign-in or passkeys, we store what's needed to check them.
- What you save. The trucks, menu items, and events you favorite, and your notification settings.
- Your location, if you allow it. The app sends your position with a search to show what's near you. We don't save it to your account or keep a history of where you've been, and the app doesn't use your location in the background. It can appear briefly in our server logs.
- Places you search for. If you search for a city or ZIP code, we send it to our geocoding provider to find it on the map.
- Device details. The model of each signed-in device and, if you allow notifications, a token used to send them. Signing out of a device removes these.
- Reviews you write. Your rating and what you write about a truck are public, shown with your first name and last initial. Your full name and email are not shown.
- Reports you send. If you report a truck, event, photo, menu item, or review, we keep the report and who sent it so we can follow up.
- Business details. Food truck operators and event planners give us their business details, and publish profiles, menus, photos, schedules, and events. What a business publishes is public.
- Technical data. Our servers keep short-lived logs, such as IP address, device type, and the pages or requests made, to keep the service running and secure. The website uses a cookie to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To run your account and show you trucks and events near you.
- To send the emails you need, such as verifying your address or resetting a password, and the notifications you turned on.
- To handle reports and keep the service safe from abuse.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent personal data. A few service providers handle data for us, only to run Drift Bite:
- DigitalOcean hosts our servers and database.
- Resend delivers our email.
- Expo, Apple, and Google deliver push notifications.
- OpenCage turns addresses and place names into map coordinates.
- Apple Maps, Google Maps, and OpenStreetMap draw our maps.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data until you delete your account. Reports you sent stay on file without your name attached. Server logs and backups are kept for a limited time, then deleted or overwritten.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Account, then Delete account) or on the website (Settings, then Profile). This removes your profile, favorites, reviews, and device details. If you own a food truck or have an upcoming event, you'll need to hand it off, close it, or cancel it first, so contact us if you need help.
Your choices
- Turn location access and notifications on or off at any time in your device settings, and choose which notifications you get in the app.
- Contact us to ask for a copy of your data or to correct it. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under local law.
Children
Drift Bite isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app or by email.
